If I had to choose my most-prized possession, it might be the collection of journals I’ve had since I was in middle school.

That’s not particularly because the writing was any good or because the stories recounted in them are always ones that I’m proud of but because they mark my first explorations with the power of print and they serve as a continued reminder that everyone —regardless of their place and position— has a story of value.

It’s a pleasure now to be a writer who gravitates towards long-form narrative storytelling. My general focus areas include race, culture, history, and injustice— particularly that which defines the criminal legal system. My writing has been featured in Shadowproof, Truthout, Essence Magazine, among other outlets.

Currently, I work as a Features Writer at Prism. Prior to joining Prism, I served as the first criminal justice campaign researcher at Color Of Change, the nation's largest online racial justice organization.

I hold a B.A. in Sociology and African American Studies from Wellesley College and a Masters from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. However, the places where I have learned the most are my two homes: Brooklyn, where I was raised, and Harlem, where I currently reside.
